Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Share Your Culture!

Centennial Elementary School celebrates cultures and traditions from around the world. We would love to collect family pictures that showcase your cultures, traditions, and celebrations to add to our displays in the building. From September 15th - October 15th we celebrate Hispanic Heritage. In honor of this celebration we are asking our Hispanic families to email digital pictures and a short description to Sara Foppiano, Family Liaison, at:
[email protected]. Your pictures will be put on display in our main hallway, and will be enjoyed by our entire school community.

Panorama Survey

The Olympia School District is asking families to participate in the Fall Panorama Survey. You can fill it out anytime between Oct 3rd- Oct 14th. The survey is intended to gauge the overall well-being of our students, staff members and families. Families can access the survey by navigating to http://surveys.panoramaed.com/olympiawa/family and selecting their school from a drop-down menu.

Conference Week Info

Fall Conferences will run all week, Oct 24th – 28th, and are HALF days, releasing at 11:05. Lunch will be provided as “grab & go.”
Conferences are back to in person and will take place here at the school as in years past.

Conference scheduling will take place in Skyward Family Access. You will sign into your Skyward - Family Access account and click on the Conference tab to see available conference times.

• Families with 2 or more Centennial Students may sign up for conferences beginning October 7th
• All Centennial Families can sign up beginning October 10th

If you are unable to schedule through Skyward for any reason, please call the front office and Megan will assist you. Online conference scheduling will close on Friday, October 21st. If you need to schedule or make changes after that time, please contact the school.

Tip: Use your desktop computer or laptop to access the Skyward - Conference Tab. The Skyward-Mobile App on your phone does not have all the features to set up conferences. The Skyward-Mobile App is best used as a view only.

Pumpkin Fund Run

Pumpkin Fund Run is Thursday, October 6th. Students can come to school dressed in their favorite orange clothing, wearing sneakers and ready to run! All monies collected from the Fund Run need to be turned in by Friday, October 21st. Visitors are permitted to come watch and cheer students on. Please sign in at the office first and get a visitor sticker. Thank you!

October 7th – Teacher In-Service Day – No School

Families that will be picking up lunches, breakfast or a Weekend Food Bag will need to pick up their food for both Thursday and Friday on Thursday, October 6th.

Booster Club….save the date!!

Friday Oct 21st will be a Booster Club sponsored Family Fall Social. The time and activities are still TBD, but mark the date on your calendar for something fun!

The Scholastic Book Fair is back in person!!

The Scholastic Book Fair will be at Centennial from October 24th-28th during Parent/Teacher Conference week and it will be in-person. This year, it will be set up in the small gym instead of the school library. Hopefully this will give us more space and make it easier to browse for books, posters and all the other fun stuff!

The proceeds from this fair will purchase many new books for our school library. Your generous support from the Spring Fair helped purchase new books as well as replace many of the well-loved ones like Dog Man, Amulet, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Keep an eye out for Book fair flyers. They will be sent home the week before the fair as well as additional information and book fair hours.

The Book Fair is a great way to support your Centennial Library!

Free & Reduced Lunch and the Friday Food Program

Because the temporary waiver for free school breakfast and lunch has expired, OSD has resumed charging regular prices for school meals. Families can apply for the Free & Reduced Lunch Program through Skyward, or request a paper application in the main office.

Another support for families is the Friday Food Program, which supplies students with a small bag of shelf stable meals and snacks to take home over the weekend. If you have questions or would like to learn more about either of these programs, please get in touch with Sara Foppiano at: [email protected]. Thank you!

Update Student Information Online- PLEASE COMPLETE!

If you have not already done so, please take a moment to login to your Skyward Family Access account and update your student's information for the new school year.
It is important that we verify your address, phone numbers, and emergency contact information each year. This information is a vital piece of our EOP (Emergency Operation Plan).
Please do NOT add parent/guardians to emergency contacts. We always call those numbers first.

To update the information, login to Family Access, click the tab on the left labeled "Update Your Student's Information 2022-23" and follow the prompts to submit any updates.

**If you are a newly registered family, you do not need to update unless you want to make any changes or additions.**

Halloween

With Halloween approaching at the end of the month, we ask families to remember to have their child wear appropriate attire to school. Please check with your individual teachers regarding plans for the day. Students are asked not to wear costumes, masks or anything that might scare other children and no look-a-like weapons. Also, remember no candy, due to the school district’s nutrition policy.

Attendance

Families please remember to call the Attendance Line at 360-596-8303 to let us know that your student will be absent from school for an illness, medical appointment or if you are gone on a trip. If you email your child’s teacher, please CC the front office to avoid any confusion.
This will eliminate the School Messenger “robo” calls from going out.
