Message from the Principal:
Hello families ~
As we wrap up the year, I thought it would be fun to interview a few Student Council members and ask how school is going. I always love talking with students and hearing their perspective on things… enjoy!
Savannah, Student Council President: “It is going pretty good, actually it is really good. I’ve gotten a lot better at soccer and I'm the Student Council president! I’m liking my teacher, he’s funny and likes a lot of the same things as us. I really like art, it is a really fun class. I can’t believe it took so long to get an art teacher!”
Kyelyn, Student Council Vice-President: I like seeing my friends and being able to talk to them. Classes are going really well! Math is really fun and I like adding decimals and the 5 minute stories we get to write. I’d like to wish everyone a happy 2022.
Milo, Student Council Representative: I definitely enjoy being with friends. Class is going really well! There is some new learning I have never done before. It’s also pretty fun just being in an actual classroom again.
Anthony, Student Council Representative: I’m feeling good about being in class but it’s a bit uncomfortable at times because we have to wear masks, especially after recess, but there’s really nothing we can do about it. I like my class and recess and playing soccer. I pretty much just play soccer at every recess. Math is going really well for me and I’ve never really liked math before. It seems easier than in 4th grade and it is just coming easier for me this year. Writing is still my favorite and I love it! My teacher is funny and does a great job teaching me.
We are so fortunate to have such amazing students here at Centennial. They inspire us and make us laugh! As always, thank you for sharing them with us.

Bus Zone Safety
We are asking families to avoid the bus loop during morning and afternoon drop off/pick-up. We have safety concerns as it is a very congested place as busses are coming and going. It is unsafe for people to be parking and walking across the street during these peak times of the day. As of 12/2, there will be cones to create a safety barrier for our bus riders.
December Love & Warmth Drive: Dec 1 - 15
We will be collecting non-perishable donations of canned food items, warm coats, hats and/or gloves. All donations are appreciated, however items of high need include: canned protein, peanut butter & veggie soups. Donations will be made to the Thurston County Food Bank and local charities. Thank you for helping with our love and warmth drive! –Student Council Representatives
Centennial Science & Engineering Fair 2022 on January 19, 2022
Mark your calendars for the Centennial Science Fair 2022 on Wednesday, January 19th during the school day! We are encouraging all families who want to do a science fair trifold presentation, engineering project, scientific research report or hands-on demonstration to proudly display these during the school day on January 19th. Dress for the Weather
Every student at Centennial has outdoor recess during the day. Students in kindergarten - fifth grades have recesses up to 35 minutes in length. This is a long time to be outside if improperly dressed for the weather. Thank you for double checking to be sure your student is dressed appropriately each day and ensuring they have a change in clothes for “just in case”. Also, remember to write your child’s name in their coats or jackets. We have a number of coats with no names in the Lost & Found Closet. We will be calling The Little Red School House to take items we have had since September and October that are still in Lost & Found before Winter Break. Please check the closet by the gym. Lots of coats and jackets!
Health Room Donations
When you are cleaning out any clothes that your child has out grown, think about the school. We are looking for both boys and girl’s pants (all sizes). Please send to the office. Thank you.
Change in Weather
The days are growing shorter which means that it’s a good time to remind students, parents and community members to exercise caution in and around school zones, bus stops and roads that are frequently used by walkers and bikers. Reflective clothing is a good idea, especially for those students who walk or bike to school in the morning and afternoon when it is dark.
Walk ‘n’ Roll to School!
Hey Centennial Stars, it’s time to Walk N Roll to School! Intercity Transit’s Walk N Roll program invites all students and families to join Centennial in walking or rolling to school and getting some outdoor activity in before getting cozy inside for the holidays with a fun morning on December 8th. Don’t forget thick socks, gloves, and a scarf to make your walk or roll safe and enjoyable!
